The bible says “God turns the ways of the wicked upside down.”
In Romans 1:20 it says, ” For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse.”
What does this mean exactly? Let’s put it in more understandable language. There are things about God that people cannot see—his eternal power and all the things that make him God. But since the beginning of the world those things have been easy to understand. They are made clear by what God has made. So people have no excuse for the bad things they do. So we can look at things around us in our natural realm to understand the things in the spiritual realm.
Allow me to give a couple of examples.
When you plant a seed in your garden the first thing that seed begins to do after being placed in the ground is to die. It is only after that that “new life” can come forth. It is the same with us, spiritually speaking. The Apostle Paul told us that we must “die to sin” (our flesh nature) in order to obtain “new life” (Christ’s life). We find this in a few places in the scriptures, but Galatians 2: 19-21 is my favorite. From this point on the seed must be watered, weeded, and cared for or it will not come to maturity. It is the same with us in the spiritual realm. Once we have accepted Christ (been born again) we must take care to water, weed, and care for his life in us. Otherwise it will wither and die and get choked out by weeds.
Another example of seeing and understanding things in the natural to explain things in the spiritual would be the human body itself. When God created the earth he created it to be made of 3/4 water. Did you know that he made our natural bodies in the same fashion? 3/4 of our natural bodies are made of water!
Now that we understand these concepts let’s re-visit our opening scripture. We are living in a time when it seems that pretty much everything is upside down. The biggest example of this right now is what I am going to call “gender confusion”. It is becoming more and more popular to not list a gender on the birth certificate of a newly born baby. In fact, some parents have even taken this so far as to not call them a baby, but a “they-be,” waiting for the child to get old enough to choose his/her own gender. Any electrician will tell you that during their schooling to become licensed they learned that there are “male and female” ends to wires and cords. This was established years ago for obvious reasons!
A big problem occurs when the absolute truth begins to be changed into relative truth!
Unless we hold to the absolute Truth that God and his written word offer us we have no other way of knowing whether something is a certainty, or, well, a “they-be”. (whatever we want it to be)
Since this is so it is no wonder that people don’t know which end is up. Most don’t know what to believe so they believe what they think is right, or what sounds good, or what works good for them. See Proverbs 21:2. Therefore, people can no longer look at things in the natural to explain the things in the spiritual because the natural things have been twisted and contaminated so badly. Genesis 1:27 says ” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.” But if we look at this in the natural first, and everything in the natural says we can choose what gender we are, then how can the spiritual possibly make sense to us? So God and his word become as foolishness to man.
In Isaiah 55:8-9 God says, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.” But we are told in 1 Corinthians 2:16 that we are to have the mind of Christ.
Here’s the bottom line: God knows what is right and true and we don’t. Unless we decide to believe His truth and follow it, we are headed for an end to all of this mess and confusion that isn’t going to be pretty. He has already told us that there will be an end and he will judge this world. And he has told us what will happen to those who did not worship Him in Spirit and in Truth, and to those who did. In fact, he gives us an open book test and provides the answer! “I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”
